Bacterial CPP?
Working in the department of Behavioral Pharmacology, certain headlines tend to be more striking than others;
"Scientist Teaching Bacteria to Eat Coffee Plant's Caffeine"
hmmh, the inquiring mind goes. "Teaching" bacteria! A new collaboration between neuroscience and microbiology? I read on:
"These bacteria are addicted to theophylline"
The possibilities are endless: are there conditioned place preference (CPP) chamber available for bacteria yet? Can they self-administer? Turns out they might be able to do just that:
We would like to teach the bacteria to make the theophylline they need by breaking down caffeine
Interesting.
