Oooops
Well, I was the very first visitor to the Boylston St drinking liberally. So early in fact that I'll need to wait another week to actually drink liberally with other like-minded folks. But I did get to see my first solar powered trash compactor.

Uhm, Mayor Menino, wouldn't you rather want to recycle that newspaper?
Philly has spent some time getting rid of public trashcans because the neighbors complained to the city that people were using them to...well, dispose of their trash. Here in Boston, they decided to install trash compactors instead. But alas--to answer Anita's question--there is "ABC" gum stuck to the sidewalks here in Boston too:
Delivering a rant about overstuffed trash cans, while trying to scrape gum off the bottom of his shoe at a Downtown Crossing unveiling, Menino described the virtues of the new devices.
