Is there a "worst blog in the world" category?
It's the end of the year and that can mean only one thing. It's Weblog awards time! Cast your votes here:
Ace of Spades
Let’s see… we’re running on national security and the economy, they’re running on general anti-faggotry.
Captain's Quarters
As a middle-aged grandfather supporting a chronically ill wife, I have few options for doing my part in the war on terror. After 9/11, I spent weeks looking into different options for service while trying to balance my family obligations. Our family found out just three weeks after the attack that the Little Admiral would soon join us, and the implications of terrorism and war weighed heavily on my mind. I resolved to use the skills I had -- writing -- to make the case for fighting a forward strategy against terrorists. Eventually that led me to this blog, but in the interim I argued for a continued muscular offensive against the Islamofascists that had murdered thousands of our fellow Americans.

I quite. I not going to vote again. It's time I gave up on this political bullshit. I just hope the nuke attack comes soon. Let it be on the East Coast where it belongs.

I'm sitting in the Empire State Building. Michael, I'm sitting in the Empire State Building, which has been in the past, and could be again, a target. Because in downtown Manhattan, it's not comfortable, although it's a lot safer than where you are, people always are three miles away from where the jihadis last spoke in America. So that's...civilians have a stake in this. Although you are on the front line, this was the front line four and a half years ago.

The unhinged group behind the anti-troops movement at UC Santa Cruz is "Students Against War." The leaders on campus, according to a SAW press release, are:

UPDATE: SAW has removed the contact information from its press release and is now lying about the fact that it made the info publicly available on the Internet. I am leaving it up.

I would imagine people like Mr. Baker are so sick of watching moderate Muslims stay seated when asked to stand up against radical Islam, and so sick of watching their fellow Americans lay down when confronted with the sensitivities of sharia-observing Muslims, that they figure a good old-fashioned pig race is in order, just to show they're not gonna get pushed around.
And, for those who freak out about Baker's insensitivity-- Dudes, it's a pig race. If only everyone waged such friendly, squealing, moonshine-soaked jihad, the world would be a much better place.
Patterico's Pontifications
In a comment thread to a nasty post of his about Malkin, I did something I shouldn’t have done. I let TBogg know that I know his name, by making allusions (that nobody but him understood) as to how one could find this publicly available information — information that HE HIMSELF HAD CHOSEN TO PUT ON THE INTERNET. It was wrong of me to do, but it wasn’t an outing. He dared me to go ahead and out him, and I then said repeatedly that I wasn’t going to. He then falsely claimed I already had, and played the martyr, revealing his own name and pretending I had — all to make me look bad. To teach me a lesson, he let one of his commenters post what he thought was my HOME ADDRESS and HOME PHONE NUMBER — which he left up all day, and took down only when I told him it wasn’t really mine. That’ll learn me!

Originally from Mississippi, Ben Domenech began his career as a political journalist covering Capitol Hill. In 2002, he was sworn in as the youngest Schedule C political appointee in the Bush Administration, where he served for a year before spending two as the chief speechwriter for a U.S. Senator. Ben has worked as a book editor, ghostwriter, and consultant (though not necessarily in that order). He is the editor in chief of The Critical, a quarterly journal. He lives in Virginia in a very old house.
Power Line
Some web site criticized this post on the ground that, while revenue per theater has indeed dropped precipitously, An Inconvenient Truth has been put into vastly more theaters, so that there has been a sight increase in total revenue (as opposed to per-theater revenue) between, say, last weekend and the first weekend in June. But the UPI story that described receipts as "plummeting" was obviously referring to the per-theater numbers. It notes that the film had the "highest average per play ever for a film documentary" during the weekend it opened, but "the film dropped from $70,333 per play to $12,334...." People in the movie business often measure a film's popularity based on the "per screen" or "per theater" numbers. By that measure, the film's perfomance has become pathetic, with per-theater revenue during the week running around $500. And, among all movies now in release, An Inconvenient Truth is languishing at number 67 in total revenue.
Good Times!
