Kitzhaber out
In '08, it's Gordo's turn to be up for election again. Besides the obvious implications--that he'll vote like a "liberal" for a year--there's the question of which Oregon Democrat will take him on. Ever since the Packwood debacle, it seems Oregonians have grown comfortable with Wyden representing the western valleys and Gordo representing the eastern steppe in the Senate. However, the '06 election seems to indicate a national turnabout on CW, so things might change in Oregon's Senate representation in '08.
My own personal favorite on the D side was former governor Kitzhaber. Those cowboy boots go a long way towards appeasing otherwise Demophobic Eastern Oregon voters. Moreover, he's an MD who knows how to talk health care to all sides. Turns out, though, that he's not running. Bummer.
