Iranian connection

This article is really making me wonder. Up until now, the trial seemed to be the usual inside deal: German judge "acquits" defendent, defendent gets one-way ticket to Guantanamo with a brief stopover in Marocco. With extremist animals like this, it's often best for a country like Germany to act disinterested and quietly send him off to his fate. Now the plan has changed. Why? Is there a larger case that needs to be made in public? Possibly to shake up the Mullahs a bit? Also, what are the Shi'ites doing messing around with UBL?

It'll be another interesting development to watch.
