Portland Brewing

Though, as the article points out, it's not as bad as it could be, it's still sad.

"As expected, Seattle's Pyramid Breweries Inc. announced plans Tuesday to buy Portland Brewing Co. for $4.2 million, in a combination of assumed liabilities, cash and Pyramid common stock....They presented it as an alliance that will create the region's third-largest craft brewer rather than Portland's loss of a brewing icon....The Portland Brewing name and beers will live on...Anheuser-Busch, the industry giant, owns a noncontrolling interest in Portland's Widmer Brothers Brewing, and the city's BridgePort Brewing Co. is owned by Gambrinus, which imports Corona and owns Pete's Wicked Ale, among others....'In the war of distribution, shelf space and marketing, we're fighting Goliath -- and we don't like his beer.'"

LOL! If I remember correctly the marketing "war" was partially lost when PB insisted on 24 oz. bottle while other micros focussed either on the 12 oz. sixpack or aggressive marketing to local bars. But, to their credit, they really do brew up a few good beers!
