It's amazing how creative we can be at these prices. Too bad it had to happen all at once. If we'd have listened to moderate voices 10 years ago and raised gas taxes step-wise and predictably--buffered by lowering income taxes / raising the minimum tax-bracket and by funding alternatives R&D--we'd be at this point now too. Except people could actually save or spend the money they'd be saving from increased efficiencies and alternative production methods on things other than the latest jet for the house of Saud or reactionary coup attempts in Venezuela. Better late than never, I suppose, but having been told in effect that conservation is unpatriotic by the nutjobs that run our country only to wind up at this price level a few years later does leave a somewhat bitter tinge on the tastebuds.
