Kissinger sees parallels to Vietnam

For me, the tragedy of Vietnam was the divisions that occurred in the United States that made it, in the end, impossible to achieve an outcome that was compatible with the sacrifices that had been made. If a radical government emerges in Baghdad or if any part of Iraq becomes what Afghanistan used to be, a training ground for terrorists, then it's the American public's fault for not accepting that Bush and Rumsfeld have been nothing but forthright and honest with them. In fact, if Americans would only accept a couple thousand casualties a year for a war that has been such a brilliant foreign policy move, we would only need to wait another dozen years before we see the light at the end of the tunnel.
