Certain carbon monoxide detectors go off when you use certain types of TV remote controls near them. In fact, that's one way to test the detector [scroll down to 17]:

The test/silence button is the only proper way to test the CO Alarm. NEVER use vehicle exhaust! Exhaust causes permanent damage and voids your warranty. For alarms with the remote control test/silence, you can also use your household IR (standard television) remote control to test or silence the alarm.
