yes on 1
Sometimes living in the "Megalopolis" makes you shake your head and wonder "huh"? Like the relationship between consumers and wine. Granted, it's not nearly as bad in MA as it is in PA, but for someone who grew up on the west coast it's still pretty weird:
Supermarkets and grocers are already allowed to sell wine, and some do. But current law limits any individual or corporation to a maximum of three (3) package store licenses. If you're a big chain like Shaw's or Stop & Shop or Trader Joe's, that means you get to choose 3 of your stores to have liquor licenses, and you can't sell alcohol in any other store. So that's why I have to cross the street to buy my wine. Question 1 will change all that. Sort of:
Each town and city would be allowed, but not required, to issue at least five such licenses. If the town or city's population is greater than 5000, it can issue an additional license for each additional 5000 people.oooohhhh, wow. FIVE licenses: yeah, now that's progress! But I guess it's better than nothing. So yeah, Yes on 1! Now if only we could get rid of the pesky PLCB.
