Greenpeace boats enter G8 security zone

Some early English-language reports here and here. Spiegel Online coverage includes a video and a photogallery.

Honestly, I'm not sure that this particular action is helpful in the struggle towards a meaningful greenhouse gas policy since if it's going to be reported in the US media at all, the "action" rather than the message will be the focus.

UPDATE: They're calling it a breakthrough: 50% GHG emissions reductions by 2050. So the G8 nations agreed to seriously consider that as a target, but the targets aren't binding. The final draft of this meeting will specifically mention the latest IPCC report. Considering how obdurate the Bush administration is, Merkel is probably right that this is the best they can do for now. Sad, but it's a baby step in the right direction. And they'll agree to talk more in December in Bali.
