Sociopathic tendencies

Right-wing bloggers have really outdone themselves today, and that's not easy to do. Earlier, Drudge linked to this WaPo article describing an official UN revision of the numbers of AIDS cases worldwide. The estimates of both spread and total number of affected will be revised downwards.

Most of us would breathe a sigh of relief that epidemiological methods are gaining accuracy and leave it at that. A wingnut, however, has a completely different take on this. The minions of Drudge pretty much all posted the same tripe, so let's focus on a few tidbits to get the complete picture:

This is one more example of how corrupt the United Nations is. Ordinarily, I would give people the benefit of the doubt.

But this is the UN — a racketeer influenced corrupt organization — the Mafia on steroids, protected from prosecution by diplomatic immunity.

It is all about the Benjamins.

Is there a global AIDS epidemic? Hard to say. Dispite the UN hsyterical reporting of such an epidemic, there isn’t much evidence.

Gaius:

Why were the numbers so wrong for so long? Promoting hysteria to gain extra funding.

So where did the estimates go awry? They relied too heavily on pregnant women as a leading indicator, not taking into account the obvious fact that pregnant women were more sexually active than others in the population.

Yet, these revelations should also refocus Americans and people around the world to recognize that this is what the U.N. does, and that any projections and estimates from this body should be seriously questioned for their veracity.

Taking this a step further, as a result of this announcement, maybe everything coming out of the IPCC should be totally ignored, as nations around the world, certainly including the United States, should not be making economic or energy policies based on anything an organization so obviously corrupt is producing.

After all, wouldn't it be unconscionable for America to embark on an economically devastating carbon cap-and-trade program only to find out years from now that the IPCC had intentionally exaggerated its climate change predictions for political and funding reasons?

To recap: The UN mafia intentionally lied about a non-existent epidemic to waste our money on undeserving sluts. Since 33 million people suffering a prolonged and painful death ain't no big deal, global warming is also just one big fat lie designed to ruin our economy.
