Ted Stevens leaving?
via Atrios:
It's a day I don't want to remember. I say goodbye to the Senate tonight. Thank you very much.Well I sure hope it's not another hollow threat like when his bridge to nowhere got canned! Yes, please leave. You're obviously too obsessed with your little pet projects to understand that a Senator really shouldn't be forcing amendments that fundamentally change the way wildlife refuges are managed into bills that have nothing to do with either wildlife or energy. At the very least, it's unseemly to say we're going to drill for oil in a wildlife refuge in order to fund a war in Iraq, at worst it sends the wrong message to the world.
--Senator Ted Stevens
Now, had you recommended a bill that would include real conservation efforts--fuel efficiency standards, greenhouse gas emissions reductions, etc.--and drilling in the arctic to supplement some of our demand, the Senate and the public would have been much more receptive. See, but that would have been too logical and not ideological. So go back to the frozen tundra and pout. Good riddance, please leave!
